Jo-Ann d'Alfonso
AYTT Facilitator

Jo-Ann is a personal trainer and has been in the health and wellness industry for more then 20 years.

Jo-Ann d'Alfonso

Her first introduction to yoga was in a community class offered in her hometown of Ste-Rose, Laval, Quebec. Not long after, she was introduced to Mindfulness Meditation by John Kabat-Zin, and Kripalu Yoga at the wellness centre in Ottawa, where she worked as a Lifestyle Consultant and Personal Trainer.

It was only when she came to Nova Scotia that she realized how an important component was missing in her life. In 2000 she met her teacher Jody Myers and took the AYTT course to become a certified 200 hour Teacher in the Kripalu Tradition. This is when she fully experienced the true meaning of Yoga.

She has enjoyed many other teachers on her Yoga quest who have left their imprint, including Shobban Richard Faulds and Brahmanand Dr. Don Stapleton, outstanding compassionate teachers, who, she says "have taught me to connect with my inner wisdom."

"Being physical is of the utmost importance for our health and helps us understand the body, but being joyful goes so much deeper into the body fibers. This is what my practice of meditation-in-motion has revealed this to me."

Jo-Ann has been actively teaching yoga for more than 12 years. She is in the process of completing her 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training certification and her 300 hour Registered Yoga Therapist certification.

Jo-Ann’s dharma is to be of service to community. She has been involved with the Yoga Atlantic Society from it’s beginning 8 years ago, and is Director of the Yoga Atlantic Conference held bi-anually in Halifax.
